Barry was attending an early morning soccer game in Valle Crucis when he decided to wander down to the nearby Watauga River where he was greeted by this scene. The early morning light and deep shadows presented a challenge beyond the dynamic range of any camera to fully resolve all the detail so Barry made the choice to capture the highlights and let the shadows fall where they may. Composition? Imagine moving the fisherman to the center and the resultant loss of impact. The lines created by the riverbanks lead the eye deep into the scene. It’s impossible to miss the focal point. Overall, a lovely image.
