Photographer’s Choice – Rosie Kosinski

Prehistoric, Brainless, Dangerous… and Mesmerizing

Rosie Kosinski - Ballet of the Jellyfish

In January of this year, Rosie visited the National Aquarium in Baltimore where a featured exhibit warned of the increasing population in our oceans of jellyfish caused by ocean environmental imbalance and pollutants in the water. The jellies have always been a creature to avoid due to the powerful sting when coming into contact with a swimmer. But for a photographer there’s only grace and beauty in these translucent, delicate prehistoric creatures. The lighting was ideal, the water clear and the blue color helped to bring out every detail in this well framed shot. Rosie returned with three images, any of which could be featured here. Two more are available on the next page. Enjoy them all.

    Rosie,

It is so wonderful to see your photos! They are such an artistic rendering of the much dreaded encounterd jellyfish. Such a beautiful way to see them………..

l find these delicate creatures and there depiction most enjoyable – but I expose myself to being a trifle biased.

Always a lover of complementary colors, I am riveted to the arrangements against a deep blue medium. Very nice Rosie.

Talking of these delicacies – I released Gracie for a run on the beach yesterday and she promptly sank her teeth into nature’s Jello, basking in the setting sun – she obviously had a significant experience as she was quickly shaking her head violently!

Beautiful! David and I are going to Bonaire soon for two weeks and look forward to the underwater beauty.
